Yellowstone River, Billings, Montana … July 9-12

We camped in Billings, Montana for three nights at the Yellowstone River Campground located on the Yellowstone River. It was a quiet campground with a nature trail leading back to the Yellowstone River. It was a pleasant walk down the trail and Dakota enjoyed playing along the banks of the river.

To Keith’s dismay, the majority of the dinghies at the campground were jeeps and they were all sparkling clean. He was mortified of the Badlands dirt covering his jeep. He was ecstatic when he found a carwash to clean the Badlands off of his jeep.

Trivia: The Yellowstone River is the longest undammed river in the lower 48 states.

Little Bighorn Battlefield, MT … July 8

On July 8 we took a small side trip to tour Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument located on the Crow Indian Reservation. This memorializes one of the last armed efforts of the Northern Plains Indians to preserve their traditional way of life. We saw Custer National Cemetery, the visitor center, and 7th Cavalry memorial. This was the site of Custer’s Last Stand. It was amazing to see the vast area of land where this infamous battle took place.
